Surgery is one of the major pillars of cancer care and control; it can be preventive, diagnostic, curative, supportive, palliative, and reconstructive.

Of the 15.2 million new global cancer cases projected for year 2015, over 80% will need some form of surgical intervention, but around 75% will not receive safe, affordable, or timely surgery based on evidence from Global Surgery 2030.
